About me
Brian Footen is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of EarthViews Conservation Society, a nonprofit organization that uses remote sensing, immersive imagery, and GIS technology to map and protect waterways. With a background as a fisheries scientist and over two decades working for Washington Treaty Tribes, Brian now leads large-scale mapping expeditions that combine kayak-based data collection with advanced geospatial tools.
He recently completed the first phase of the Puget Sound Atlas—an ambitious project mapping over 2,500 miles of shoreline imagery and data. Brian also directs the development of a new program, EcoTrackrs, a citizen science initiative using temperature logging sensors and Esri technology to crowdsource water temperature data across space and time in Puget Sound.
At the 2025 Washington GIS Conference, Brian will share how EarthViews is making waterways visible, measurable, and more protecting them more defensible through innovative mapping and public engagement.
